Xybernetics Rockwell Stratix 8000 - Putting To Factory Setting And Express Setup

When you want to initially setup your Stratix switch right off the box, you will want to utilize the Express Setup to assign an initial IP address to which you can used to configure the switch. The Express Setup also run Global macros to perform initial configuration for the switch. However, functions like VLAN setup, routing table and spanning tree is not covered in the initial macro as these switch functions requires site specific requirements.

There are various models of Stratix switches and the images below illustrates where the Express Setup buttons are located on the device. Express Setup button are recessed behind the panel, and to reach it you will require a small tool such as a paper clip. The images below are from the Stratix Managed Switches (1783-um007_-en-p.pdf) User Manual (page 28-29).

For our demonstration, we will be using the Stratix 8000 switch.

Essentially, there are 3 Express Setup modes that you can enter using the same Express Setup button; Short Press (1 to 5 seconds), Medium Press (6 to 10 seconds) and Long Press (16 to 20 seconds).

  • Short Press Express Setup mode can be used when you want to enter the initial IP address of the switch. You can then configure additional network
    settings via Device Manager.
  • Medium Press Express Setup mode is used when you want to use an external DHCP server to assign the switch an IP address. You can then configure additional network settings via Device Manager or the Logix Designer application.
  • Long Press Express Setup mode is used when you want to reset the switch to use factory default settings.

Detail characteristics of these three different Express Setup modes are out lined in the table below. The table below is from the Stratix Managed Switches (1783-um007_-en-p.pdf) User Manual (page 30).
