There are two locations where you can check the what licenses you have and its details.
Using the 800xA (Engineering Workplace software), open “Engineering Workplace” tool and select “Control Structure”. Click on “Root, Domain” and select “License Usage” aspect (as shown below)
“TAGS_RED” tells you that you can have a total of 16600 tags in this system and your DCS application is already using 15556 tags.
Note that every faceplate is counted as 1 tag. As long as it has a “Faceplate” aspect, it is counted as one tag. If you have tag that only appears in the alarm banner and/or does not have a “Faceplate” aspect, it is not counted as tag usage and therefore does not increase your tag usage count.
The image below shows “Faceplate” aspect (which is always defined in the “Control Structure”)
Using the Aspect Server, RDP into the Aspect Server. You can RDP into the active or the redundant server, it does not matter.
Start the “ABB License Entry” tool.
Click on “800xA Core” to see the number of tags this DCS is licensed for (Under the Feature column called “TAG_RED”). It should show the name number of tags as in the Engineering Workplace but without the usage number
You can see what other licenses are available in the system using the same method.
One thing to note is that all ABB licenses are dongle based (hardware) at the time of this writing.
