Learn how to setup Modicon M580 hot standby configuration.
In the Schneider Electric M580 hot standby (HSBY) PLC architecture, when an active PLC failed, the standby (or backup) PLC will assume the role of an active PLC and will keep operating the control system seamlessly. The two PLC communicates via the Hsbt Link port. See screenshot below.
You will have to use the SFP (Small Form-factor Pluggable) transceiver on the Hsby Link. See illustrated below of the SFP transceiver that can be used in the Modicon M580.
Apart from physically connecting using cable, you will also need to set the rotary dial for both CPU so that they can be identified as the different and separate Modicon M580 CPU. The rotary dial for the CPU can be found on the back of the CPU module (need to remove CPU from the rack), and it has a option to set it as PLC A or PLC B.
- Both Modicon M580 CPU rotary dial cannot be set the same letter (A or B).
- Power cycle to both Modicon M580 CPU is required if the rotary dial setting is changed.
There is a look up imprinted on the side of the Modicon M580 CPU for reference. See screenshot below.
The image below illustrates rotary dial setting when the PLC is assigned as PLC A.
