TechTalk – Rockwell Stratix : Port Colour Coding & What It Means

Rockwell Stratix switches are industrial switches that is built with CISCO capacity networking chipset.

The purpose of this article is to give you an insight on what each colour code means for each of the both copper and or fiber ports.

To configure the Stratix switches, open a browser and enter the IP address of the Stratix switch.

Enter the appropriate password.

I was able to access the Stratix switch’s webpage using both Microsoft Internet Explorer and Google Chrome, and I believe that Mozilla Firefox would work as well. but I have not tested in Mozilla Firefox before.

In the screenshot below, I have got a Stratix 8000 (main board) and an expansion fiber module.

In the screenshot below, I have got a Stratix 8000 (main board), an expansion copper module and an expansion fiber module (on th extreme right).

So what does the port colour coding mean?

Green means that the port is open and an Ethernet cable is connected. It is basically a “Link” LED in the physical Ethernet port.

Brown means that the port is administratively disable. Which means that you will have to turn it on using this webpage. The next article highlights how to enable and disable a port. even if you connect an Ethernet cable to this port, the physical link light will not be on.

Grey means that the port is open and an Ethernet cable is NOT attached to that port.

Same colour coding applies to fiber as well.
