Online editing is one of the beautiful function that was created. It allows you to modify your logic without having to do a full download to the PLC, leading to safe and none-ESD related download. Ok, the acronym “none-ESD” is not really industry used term but you get the point.
In additional to that, it helps to preserve your latest setpoints… if they have not been saved in the currently downloading file. Maybe I should write a blog about how to save your setpoint…. <heavy breathing, wheels turning in head>… Anyway, online editing is awesome, if done right.
This article focuses on how to delete the whole rung. I know some of you are advance PLC programmer, however, there are always some new PLC programmer who might find this handy, especially when it comes to deleting the whole rung ONLINE. Well, I hope someone finds this useful.
First, go online with the controller (PLC).
Once you are online with the controller, the textbox will turn green.
Open you ladder logic and scroll down to the rung that you want to deleted.
Right-click on the rung number. For this example, we will be deleting rung #24, and select “Delete” from the context menu.
The rung will turn red with “D” notation.
Click on the “Test Edit” icon/button.
Click on the “Yes” button to acknowledge test edit function.
Click on “Assemble Edits” icon/button.
Finally, click on “Yes” button.
The zone marker “D” will disappear, and now your whole rung has been deleted from the logic online.
Don’t forget to save your logic in the computer for future archiving.
This is the same technique you will be using for RSLogix5 and RSLogix5000.
