You can configure the CISCO IE 3000 switch to trigger an external alarm device by using the two independent alarm relays (major or minor).
You can trap various alarms and trapped alarm state can be connected to an external device via the major and minor terminals on the CISCO IE 3000 switch. See page 4 of the “Configuring IE 3000 Switch Alarms” document (see Reference section below) on how to configure alarms.
The CISCO IE 3000 switch yields a digital signal of zero when a pre-configured alarm state is detected and a 1 when it is normal. I am connecting the CISCO IE 3000 switch Mahor Alarm terminal to a SCADAPack digitial input terminal, and have written an associated fail safe logic on the RTU. See screenshot below.
In general, you can trap the following alarms. Refer to “Configuring IE 3000 Switch Alarms” document under Reference section below.
- Global Status Monitoring Alarms
- FCS Error Hysteresis Threshold
- Port Status Monitoring Alarms
- Triggering Alarm Options
This is how you would wire it up. I have take various pictures for reference.
I hope that gets you started. Cheers!
