Not all SD card works on the Allen-Bradley PanelView HMI. As a rule of thumb, it has to be SDHC (high capacity) at the minimum. If you are using SDXC (extended capacity) card, keep the storage capacity at the maximum of 32GB. Just as summary, SD (secure digital) cards are the oldest technology and its limited to 2GB of storage. SDHC (high capacity) cards can store up to 32 GB of data, while SDXC (extended capacity) cards can store up to 2 terabytes (2000 GB).

These are the SD card specifications for each of the PanelView HMI.

PanelView Plus 7

  • One SD card slot for external storage; supports cat. no. 1784-SDx and 1784-SDHCx cards.
  • Minimum 8 GB and max 32 GB

PanelView 5000

  • Data logging requires a minimum 4GB SDHC (HC is High Capacity) standard card. The maximum size card for the SDHC standard specification is 32GB and can be used with the PanelView 5000 line.
  • The SD card can have other files not related to data logging stored but there must be a minimum of 4GB of available storage for proper data logging.
  • The SD card can be formatted as FAT32 (File Allocation Table 32 bit) but EXT3 (3rd Extended File System) format is less susceptible to file corruption. Both formats are supported.
